Steel Pulse came out of Handsworth, Birmingham in 1975 and built roots reggae around unflinching social commentary, from their landmark 1978 debut Handsworth Revolution onward. Babylon the Bandit made them the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy for Best Reggae Album, one of nine nominations across their career. Founding vocalist David Hinds still steers the band after five decades on the road.
